What is Storynotes?
Storynotes offers honest, professional screenplay coverage in just five minutes. For a one-time fee of $20 with no subscription required, you receive a detailed analysis that includes a letter grade, page-specific citations, and three actionable rewrites to try that same night. The service is designed for screenwriters who need fast, candid feedback on their work without the wait or cost of traditional coverage services.
Coverage begins with a clear assessment of the story you actually wrote—its genre, tonal register, and the function of each principal character. For example, in a romantic comedy-thriller hybrid, the analysis identifies the dominant engine as a courtship conducted under lethal pressure, with characters circling through flirtation, rejection, jealousy, and wit. Key scenes are cited with page numbers, such as the nightclub orange game (p.43) as a physical comedy meet-cute accelerant, and the Megève snowmask encounter (p.4) to the final marriage-license exchange (p.184). The thriller elements are evaluated for escalating jeopardy and false resolution, noting where the script succeeds (e.g., Scobie's death narrowing the field before revealing the false Bartholomew at p.171) and where it stumbles (e.g., the abrupt Bartholomew-as-Carson reveal at p.169). The analysis also checks for fair-play revelation in mystery subplots, highlighting when clues are withheld.
Use cases include preparing for contests, submissions, or rewrites. Technical details: coverage is delivered as a concise PDF with bullet-point strengths and weaknesses, plus specific rewrite suggestions. The service is ideal for writers at any level who want honest, no-nonsense feedback to improve their script quickly.
