What is Cline CLI?
Cline CLI is a powerful, open-source tool that brings coding agents directly into your terminal and onto a Kanban board for orchestration. With a single npm install, you can run agents from the command line or launch Cline Kanban to manage multiple agents in parallel, each isolated in its own git worktree to prevent merge conflicts. The platform supports every major AI provider and is compatible with Claude Code and Codex, allowing you to run a mixed fleet of agents.
Key features include per-card git worktrees that ensure each task operates in its own branch, eliminating conflicts when agents work simultaneously. Dependency chains enable linked cards to auto-start when their predecessor completes, building pipelines without complex scripts. Diff and checkpoint reviews allow you to examine agent work scoped to message ranges, not just a cumulative diff. Inline review lets you comment on any line of the diff, with feedback sent directly back to the agent.
Cline CLI excels at breaking down large projects or backlogs with a single prompt. Use the sidebar agent to add, edit, link, and start tasks, or connect to Linear MCP to manage tickets. Observe agents working in real-time with a live diff, and leave comments as if reviewing a PR. For advanced use, Cline offers plugins, schedules, connectors, policy hooks, and headless CI. Bundle tools, hooks, slash commands, and rules into reusable packages for team sharing or npm publishing. Gate every tool call with scripts for safe reads, approval on writes, and blocking production access. Cron-driven agents run independently of your terminal for daily standups, weekly dependency checks, or nightly triage. Chat with agents from Slack, Discord, Telegram, Google Chat, WhatsApp, or Linear, with each thread as its own session. Stand up coordinators with specialists sharing a task board, inter-agent mailbox, and mission log that survives restarts.
