What is NewAPI?
NewAPI is an open-source AI API gateway that unifies access to over 40 AI providers—including OpenAI, Anthropic Claude, Google Gemini, DeepSeek, xAI Grok, Azure OpenAI, AWS Bedrock, Moonshot, Qwen, Zhipu GLM, Volcengine, Minimax, Midjourney, and more—behind a single OpenAI-compatible interface. This self-hosted platform provides a centralized control panel for managing channels, API keys, quotas, and usage logs, making it an ideal token relay and management solution for teams and resellers.
Key features include model routing, channel control, API key management, quota rules, and usage visibility. With NewAPI, you can route requests to multiple upstream AI models through one deployment, view usage statistics, and manage provider access without switching between different consoles. The OpenAI-compatible API ensures seamless integration: simply change the base URL to your NewAPI instance and use your NewAPI key—no code modifications required. All upstream providers are exposed via a single API endpoint that follows OpenAI’s request/response format, allowing you to switch models or providers effortlessly.
Channels map model names to specific upstream providers and keys, with support for load balancing weights, priority-based failover, and automatic retry. You can issue API keys to end users with per-key quota limits, rate limits, and group access policies. Upstream credentials are stored server-side, so end users never see real keys. Every request is logged with model, token count, latency, and status, and you can view per-user and per-channel consumption from the admin panel.
NewAPI is fully open-source and can be deployed via Docker or standalone binary, supporting SQLite, MySQL, and PostgreSQL. Data remains entirely on your own infrastructure. Use cases include powering internal tools, public products, and multi-provider AI workflows for teams. It simplifies operations by consolidating model routing, provider access, API keys, and quota policies in one place, while maintaining OpenAI-compatible access for easy migration.
