What is Supertonic?
Supertonic is a lightning-fast, on-device multilingual text-to-speech system designed for local inference with minimal overhead. Powered by ONNX Runtime, it runs entirely on your device—no cloud, no API calls, no privacy concerns. This ensures that sensitive voice data never leaves your machine, making it ideal for applications where data security is paramount.
Supertonic supports an extensive range of languages, including Arabic, Bulgarian, Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, English, Estonian, Finnish, French, German, Greek, Hindi, Hungarian, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Latvian, Lithuanian, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Slovak, Slovenian, Spanish, Swedish, Turkish, Ukrainian, and Vietnamese. For texts where the language is unknown, simply pass `lang="na"` and Supertonic will handle the input in a language-agnostic way, requiring no explicit language tag.
Installation is straightforward via the Python SDK. On first run, Supertonic automatically downloads the necessary model assets from Hugging Face. The SDK also allows you to run Supertonic as a local HTTP service, enabling integration with tools that already speak HTTP, such as local agents, browser extensions, Electron apps, workflow automation tools, or OpenAI-compatible audio clients. Once the server is running, you can use the native `POST /v1/tts` endpoint or the OpenAI-compatible `POST /v1/audio/speech` endpoint. The server also exposes interactive OpenAPI docs at `http://127.0.0.1:7788/docs`.
For developers, the `supertonic-py serve` guide provides detailed examples for request handling, batch synthesis, and custom Voice Builder JSON import. To get started, clone the repository and download the ONNX models and preset voices into the `assets` directory. Note that the Hugging Face repository uses Git LFS, so ensure Git LFS is installed.
